Vermont House Approves Apology for Eugenics Program

The Vermont House of Representatives voted unanimously to approve an official apology for Vermont’s role in the eugenics movement of the 1930s.

During this 2 hour House session, representative Tom Stevens explains the Vermont Eugenics Survey which tracked families to see it they were “defective” or “deviant.” Groups that were considered “less than” suffered forced sterilization, children taken from families, and institutionalized many people.
