Abenaki History Timeline: Teacher Overview

Grades 3–12 | Social Studies, History, Science

Downloadable poster available at the bottom of the page

This visual timeline, created by the Abenaki Arts & Education Center, shows more than 12,000 years of Abenaki history in N’Dakinna (our homeland) in the northeastern region of North America. The poster traces how the Abenaki people and their ancestors adapted to changing climates, developed technologies, and maintained cultural traditions through time.

Students can see how Indigenous knowledge, ecological understanding, and cultural continuity shaped Abenaki life from the Paleoindian era to today. The timeline can support lessons about human-environmental relationships, adaptation, and the ongoing presence of Indigenous peoples.
